Katonga Bridge fully reopens to traffic after reconstruction

The reconstructed Katonga Bridge on the Kampala–Masaka Highway is fully open to traffic following a UGX191 billion reconstruction project undertaken by the Ministry of Works and Transport with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC). The original bridge was damaged by flooding in May 2023, disrupting one of Uganda's key transport corridors and forcing motorists onto diversions. The completed works include a new elevated bridge and 2.7 kilometres of associated road works. Reopening restores direct movement along the corridor, easing a major bottleneck for passengers, freight operators and regional trade.

MWE hands over WASH and classroom facilities to three Oyam schools

The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE), through its Water and Sanitation Development Facility–North (WSDF-N), has handed over completed WASH and classroom facilities to Loro Primary School, Loro Secondary School and Odike Primary School in Oyam District. The works include new classrooms, staff housing, latrines and renovations to existing facilities. The handover took place on 7 October 2026, following substantial completion of construction. A 365-day defects liability period has begun, during which identified defects must be rectified. The project highlights the importance of post-construction quality assurance and maintenance readiness.

IGG appoints technical firm to investigate Busega–Mpigi Expressway
