Housing Finance Bank and industry stakeholders examine regional real estate markets for housing, infrastructure, property finance and investment opportunities in Mbarara and Western Uganda.

News: Developers, financiers, planners and policymakers met in Mbarara on August 21 for the Ankole Real Estate & Infrastructure Conference, part of Knight Frank Uganda’s REDi initiative. Housing Finance Bank led discussions around housing, infrastructure, property finance and investment opportunities in Western Uganda.

Context: Mbarara’s expanding population, commercial role and position as a regional hub are creating new dynamics in regional real estate markets as projections predict more demand for housing, commercial property and supporting infrastructure. The conference follows a similar REDi engagement in Gulu and reflects increasing attention to real-estate opportunities outside Kampala. Financing models discussed include conventional mortgages, construction finance and incremental building approaches.

Stakeholder Implications: For developers and investors, the opportunity is increasingly regional rather than Kampala-only. But demand alone will not determine what gets built: serviced land, infrastructure capacity, development finance, planning controls and the purchasing power of the target market will ultimately shape which projects become viable.
