Low-Carbon Concrete Moves into Mainstream Public Procurement

The Story: Low-embodied-carbon requirements are moving from sustainability guidance into procurement practice in major construction markets. In the United States, the General Services Administration has established embodied-carbon limits for concrete, cement and other construction materials used in qualifying federal projects. In Europe, carbon policy and construction-sector decarbonisation measures are also increasing pressure on cement and concrete producers to reduce embodied emissions.
