Kenya Revives Naivasha–Malaba SGR, Reopening Northern Corridor Integration

The Story: Kenya has restarted its long-delayed Standard Gauge Railway extension from Naivasha towards Kisumu and Malaba, reviving plans for a continuous rail connection to the Ugandan border. Uganda, meanwhile, is mobilising financing for its planned 272 km Malaba–Kampala SGR section, with Citibank appointed to help arrange funding.

The Built Environment Takeaway: Completion of both SGR links would strengthen rail integration along the Northern Corridor and could shift more bulk cargo away from long-distance road haulage from Mombasa to Uganda and beyond, via Malaba.
