Uganda Construction Sector Enters High-Gear Delivery Phase (2026)

Major oil, transport and urban projects are converging toward completion in 2026, signalling a decisive shift from groundbreaking to delivery across Uganda’s infrastructure pipeline.

Uganda’s construction industry is moving into a high-intensity delivery cycle as several multi-year megaprojects approach completion. With the sector contributing roughly 13% of GDP, momentum is being driven by oil infrastructure, strategic transport upgrades, and accelerated urban works.

Major Infrastructure Milestones (2026)

Several "nation-defining" projects are hitting critical stages this year:

• Energy & Oil: The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) and the Tilenga/Kingfisher upstream projects are in their final implementation phases. This coincides with the expected completion of the Kabalega International Airport in Hoima, designed to serve the oil region.

• Transport & Logistics: * Standard Gauge Railway (SGR): The Kampala-Malaba section remains a flagship priority to modernize regional trade.

  • Strategic Bridges: In February 2026, the government and UNOPS launched a project to rebuild three critical bridges (Ayi, Kochi-2, and Woi) in the West Nile region to improve access for over a million people, including refugee-hosting communities.
