Is it Time to Rethink the Manual? Why Uganda’s Topography Demands a New Approach to Road Design
When a highway or urban artery is constructed along a lower slope or valley floor, it naturally becomes the lowest hydraulic point in that localized system. If the uphill feeder networks remain unpaved, un-stabilized, and lacking basic drainage, every heavy storm triggers high-velocity runoff. This runoff carries heavy loads, including debris, rubbish, silt and mud wash down the slopes.
